The boot

The legs scissor shut and the two side panels collapse flat into a single steel slab with a cut-out handle. The grate lifts off and rides alongside it.

It slides in beside the cooler box and leaves space for everything else — which is the whole reason it comes with you instead of staying home.

Folded, it is 3 cm thick. Flat enough to forget it is in there until you need it.

A 45 cm chrome grate with closely spaced bars — wide enough to lay out goat, beef, sausages and maize at the same time, and nothing drops into the coals. The basin underneath holds a full load of charcoal, so the heat holds from the first plate to the last.

The build

Powder-coated steel on a bolted X-frame, made to sit in heat and smoke and get thrown in a boot still warm. Wipe the grate down when you get home and it is ready for the next one.
